Organizing your scrapbook space is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. When your space is organized you can enjoy your hobby and you will be able to accomplish more in far less time. Organizing a scrap space can seem to be an overwhelming task but the benefits are well worth the effort.
I have been scrapping for years and I find that the longer I've been scrapping the more creative I have become. The more creative I got the more supplies I needed. I soon found myself spending more time looking through my treasures rather than actually scrapping. It was time to get organized!
Whether you have a dedicated space or a whole room, here are some basic tips on how to get started organizing a scrapbook supplies
1. Space- Every area in your home has the potential to become a storage space for your scrapbook supplies. If you don't have a spare room to use for crafting then decide which area in your home you can set apart for your scrap-booking supplies.
2. Stock - It's time to take inventory. Assess what you have. If your like me, you will find that you have items that you forgot you had! First, sort your supplies into three categories, keep, donate, toss. Donate or toss anything that you have not used in 1 - 2 years. If you haven't used it recently chances are, you never will. While sorting divide the keep items into categories such as paper, ribbon, stamps, scissors, pens, embellishments, etc. After placing them into categories you can further divide them by color, style or product line. Find the system that works best for you. I find that I organize my supplies in a combination of all three ways.
3. System - Ask yourself these questions: Do I have existing furniture that I can use? If so, is there enough storage space to keep all of my belongings? Do I have currently have any containers to keep my supplies?
Decide what you have as far as storage goes and what you think you may need. It's important to not buy storage items until you know what you already own and what amount of items you have in each category. Remember to allow extra space in each category for new supplies.
4. Store- Gather all you supplies, place them in the appropriate containers and place. Place the items that you use most often (scissors, glue, trimmer, etc.) close to your work area. Supplies that are only used occasionally can be stored further away.
5. Survey- Continue to evaluate your space as you use it. You will find that for different types of project you will use different tools, adjust your workspace as needed. Be flexible and make adjustments as they are needed.
